A record-setting round helped propel the UBC women's golf team to the title at this week's Battle at Primm tourney in Nevada.
UBC recorded the school's lowest-ever single-round score of 297 during Tues-day's second round to erase a six-shot deficit and defeat Oklahoma City University by seven strokes.
Four UBC players finished inside the top 20 at the event, including Richmond's Stephanie Wong, and Reagan Wilson of Calgary, who both tied for fifth place at seven-over par.
The win will most certainly move the Thunder-birds up in the NAIA rankings. They were fourth in the most recent rankings, while Oklahoma City was first.
UBC's next action is April 9 at the Spring Invitational at Sonoma State University, a NCAA Division 2 school in Rohnert Park, Calif.
EUGENE IN EUGENE: North Vancouver's Eugene Wong finished second to University of Oregon team-mate Andrew Vijarro at the Duck Invitational in Eugene, Ore., this week.
Wong, the former B.C. Amateur champion who is finishing up his senior year at Oregon, fired rounds of 69, 69 and 73 to finish the 54-hole event at five-under par and one shot behind Vijarro. Oregon won the team title by two shots over Long Beach State. Delta's Jonnie Motomochi, of Oregon State, finished tied for 19th at four-over par.
