Thunderbirds edge Swifts in opener
The fit and confident Adelaide Thunderbirds want to keep the momentum rolling after starting netball's trans-Tasman championship season with a convincing 57-40 win over the Swifts.
Both teams made a strong start as the season commenced at the Netball South Australia Stadium in Adelaide for the second year in a row - but the Thunderbirds had their revenge on New South Wales, which won last year by 20 goals.
A home victory looked anything but certain until the third quarter with the teams almost neck and neck as the Thunderbirds failed to shake the on-song Swifts.
But Adelaide coach Jane Woodlands-Thompson said she had no doubts thanks to the team's fitness and confidence in each other.
"I knew we'd come back, I have so much faith in this team. They will come back from anywhere," she said.
"We've just got to really work on our start and make sure we put it out a little bit earlier."
The Thunderbirds shot ahead in the second half after Kate Shimmin replaced Sharni Layton as goal keeper and former Melbourne Vixen wing defence Renae Hallinan and goal attack Erin Bell picked up their games.
