Get out and see birds of prey
The Peregrine Fund is renowned for its endangered species recovery methods of breeding and releasing birds of prey into their natural habitat. It is famous for the recovery of peregrine falcon from extinction and for its thriving international migratory bird conservation partnerships. In addition to breeding, the Boise-based Peregrine Fund manages the releases of the birds into the wilds, distinguishing itself from other breeding facilities.
Youll see the birds up close and learn about them from experts. Family-oriented educational activities occur regularly at the Velma Morrison Interpretive Center on-site. There are six daily presentations of live birds. At the Archives of Falconry, exhibit tours teach about falconry. There is also a quarter-mile interpretive trail on-site that leads to a high point with a scenic view of the valley.
You can get near North Americas largest flying bird at the California condor exhibit. A rock cliff display with a real tree provides nesting perches while a nesting cave and large boulders replicate natural habitat for the male and female bird in the exhibit. The nesting cave encourages birds to lay eggs, which are then replaced with dummy eggs. The real eggs are incubated, and the chicks reared for possible release into the wild.
