Me and my lil sister are getting hummingbird tattoos in memory of our grandmother.
It wont be big, but it's not teeny weeny either. It'll just be a hummindbird with a tribal circle design behind it and a tribal heart above the bird.

When the police called a second time, they had a question that struck fear in Arlene Meara’s heart: Did her daughter have any tattoos?

She answered their question and they soon called back, this time asking her to come to the station in Lowell.

At that moment, says the Woburn mother, “I knew.”

Twenty-four-year-old Shannon Meara – Arlene’s only child – was dead, killed by a bullet to the head fired by a one-time boyfriend in an apartment full of friends in Lowell. Her body had been found in a Dracut dumpster – discarded there by her killer and his buddies. Her hummingbird tattoo helped identify her body.

She had been the center of Arlene’s universe – the ringlet-haired princess whom everyone called Shirley Temple as a child, the one who ate only chicken nuggets and yogurt as a girl but grew up to be an impressive Asian chef, the smart 2001 Woburn High grad who taught herself languages like Spanish and Khmer, who wanted to be a lawyer, who loved exploring other cultures.
