Bogue: Coyote spotted eating seed from backyard bird feeder

Gardens in the rain

Await Spring's expected birth

In stony stillness.

-- haiku by Harry Morgan, Pleasanton

Dear Gary: We may qualify for unusual "birds" at our feeder.

On two different evenings in the past week, our Yorkie, Lola, started barking and came to get my husband to investigate her "find" outside our patio door. When he turned on the outside light, standing there on a retaining wall, stretching to reach the feeder, was a coyote.

Our yard borders on open space and we are still trying to figure out how he gets into the fenced yard. Personally, I think he turns his long tail into a helicopter rotor!
