You Can't Have Too Many Eagles

After more than a month of scarce sightings, we seem to finally have Medford's Bald Eagles on our radar. Our luck began in the middle of January. On Saturday morning of January 21st., as the snow was falling for the first time that month, photographer Kim Nagy and I spotted one of the almost full-adult eagles perched on a tree overlooking the lake on the Arlington side. I say 'almost' full adult because there are flecks of brown on its white head. According to Medford's raptor expert, Paul Roberts, the brown on its head indicates it's almost - but not quire - a full adult bird. This tree, on the Arlington side of the lakes, has become another of their favorites. We watched and photographed this beautiful eagle from the sidewalk through to the back yard. It wasn't the best opportunity, trying for a clear view through branches, but it was a start. And seeing a Bald Eagle, perched on a tree on a snowy day, is a spiritual experience anyway.
