UPPER DEERFIELD TWP. — A flock of flamingos has been traveling throughout Cumberland County for the past several weeks, and 11-year-old Hailey Mehaffey has been busy helping residents get the pink birds off their yards.Mehaffey, a fifth-grader at the Elizabeth Moore School in Upper Deerfield Township, offers her flamingo removal services for a modest fee, in support of her fundraising efforts to travel for 19 days through the United Kingdom this summer as a Student Ambassador with the People to People Program.
“People to People is a program where you can get chosen by a person, and then you go to all different countries and get to learn about what they do, how they work, what they eat and how they live,” said Mehaffey, speculating she was nominated by an anonymous teacher.
