Outdoors With Braz: Turkey Season, Deer Permit Deadline Quickly Approaching
18.05.12
The mushrooms are sprouting! There have been lots of reports of people finding black velvets and grays, but just last Sunday (March 25) my family went out and found several nice yellow morels as well. I've seen random pictures of a few yellows being found from Facebook friends too. One guy had over 100 yellow morels he said he found in southern Montgomery County!
I'm planning a trip out tomorrow myself, I'll let you know how it went. I can say that the groundcover is already pretty thick and the bugs are out in full force. Make sure you watch out for the poison ivy and other plants and use some good insect repellent with DEET in it to keep the ticks away. You might check the edges of the creek banks and the hillsides where the groundcover isn't quite as thick yet.
Gone Fishing
Now for some fishing news. The fish are biting and many varieties are being caught throughout the central Illinois area. Crappie are biting good at Litchfield's Lake Lou Yaeger, Hillsboro's Glenn Shoals and the old lake, Coffeen, and Sangchris.
