DIPPER TOUR TO KIVESKOSKI RAPIDS ( about 3 hours)

Transportation by car from Ruka to Kiveskoski Rapids which remain open all winter. Most of the dippers in Kuusamo spend their winter in Kiveskoski. During the long, freezing periods a maximum of over 50 birds may gather there. When the weather gets milder their number decrease to about 20-30 birds. Also Smew, Goldeneye or Mallard among others often try to spend the winter in the open water, but their fate is often to become eaten by mink or otter whose footprints can be seen in many places in the snow. The first migrating Whooper Swans usually arrive at Kiveskoski in late March and after the middle of April you can see for example Cranes, Curlews and Lapwings resting on the ice and even a flock of Snow Buntings can be seen in April in Kiveskoski every year.

We will have coffee and Finnish buns during the tour.

Price 80€/ person (minimum 3 people)
