BIRD TOUR TO KONTTAINEN, FELL HIKING WITH SNOWSHOES ( about three hours)

Transportation by vehicle to the foot of Konttainen Fell where a winter feeding place for birds is located. A bird guide will familiarize you with Kuusamo’s winter birds in the middle of frosty fir trees. Winter birds of a taiga forest include for example Siberian Jay, Siberian Tit, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Three-toed Woodpecker and from late February onwards Pine Grosbeak which is the first bird that migrates to Kuusamo in Spring. The small birds which are busily feeding in flocks are unaware the horror that awaits them. As a Pygmy owl is lurking, for a careless victim to become its prey, in the shade of fir tree branches. We will have coffee and sandwiches at the top of Konttainen, where we can also admire the magnificent landscape over Kitkajärvi Lake and Riisitunturi Fell rising behind it.
