BERWICK Rotary Club and the local Leukaemia and Lymphoma branch who have joined forces to organise a big fun day for the Queen’s diamond jubilee on June 4 are happy with progress so far.
Reporting to the rotary club, Michael Richardson said they have held meetings with the town council and the Mayor, Alan Bowlas is fully supported.
Just around the corner now is the first of rotary’s big fundraising attractions - Waspy’s crank-up at Horncliffe Honey Farm when vintage cars, motor cycles and agricultural machinery will be dusted off.
“We need as many members as possible to support us on the day,” said Michael. “This event is growing bigger year by year.”
Vice president Ken Budge and David Conway represented rotary at the meeting in the Guildhall when Berwick was made the 501st Fairtrade town. Ken said it was an interesting occasion.
He confirmed that Alistair Lindsay of Prenderguest, Ayton, a well-known after dinner speaker, would be one of the guests at the president’s night in Berlino’s on May 18.
