Shuffleboard column | Jim Miller, Marilyn Everett win 2012 Open Masters titles
Ably hosted by Jet Park Shuffle Club, the 2012 Open Masters Tournament finished Saturday moments before a rainstorm.
Jim Miller, a retired farmer from Goshen, Ind., won yet another Masters. Winter resident of the Pinecraft neighborhood in Sarasota County, Jim is a vice-president of Bradenton Shuffle Club, who with his wife, Jo, has helped upgrade many facets of the downtown Bradenton Club. Jim is a very careful and methodical shooter and strategist who is much respected in the fraternity of Florida Shuffleboard.
Second place went to Jerry Everett of Maine and Paradise Bay. Mentored at first a dozen years ago by sisters Betty Lovens and Marty Reiter, Jerry has matured into a frequent winner who shares his love of the sport with hundreds as a coach and chair of the District Amateur Masters and is a leader of shuffle schools. Jerry thanks all who helped him with their time, skills and knowledge.
Third place went to Dr. Larry Mardis of Cincinnati and Braden Castle. A retired dentist who helps active professionals find optimum office locations in summer, Larry is a very calm, friendly, and secure expert whom few can help loving even when he defeats them on the courts.
