Channahon-area wildlife fun to watch

One of the cool things about living in this area is getting to see all the wildlife. The local animals can be a real pain in the neck sometimes, but they can also be pretty entertaining.
While setting the table for dinner one day last week, I saw movement out my patio door. I looked up just in time to see a fox trotting along in the field behind my property. In a flash she was gone.
A few days later I saw an indigo bunting at my bird feeder. I wasn’t even sure what it was until I asked my arborist, Keith Tulk, who cares for the trees and bushes on my property. Keith did an internship as an avian monitor at Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie when he was in college. It’s good to have knowledgeable resources when you come across an indigo bunting!
I was shocked to see such a beautiful iridescent blue bird in my yard. I get the usual birds like pairs of cardinals and blue jays, yellow finches, robins, sparrows and an occasional hummingbird. Some of them can be annoying, like the blue jays that look through the glass and peck at the patio door when they haven’t been fed in a day or two, or the grackles that steal all the seed from the prettier birds. I guess they have to eat, too.
